2012 meeting minutes
DPA Board Meeting
November 19, 2012
Board members in attendance: Bob Smith, Lisa Jacobs, Doron Almog.
The meeting was called to order at 7:35pm.
Elliot Pollak Bench
The final approval for the bench will come in the next few weeks. Bob S. submitted a design to Steve Garone.
The Pond and Surface Water Quality (SWQ)
The DPA has allocated $15K this year of which $7500 has been used. Next year, SWQ will have a $46,900 budget an $7500 will again be for Dudley Pond.
Mike Lowery reported seeing many more corkscrew weeds in the pond this fall. We will monitor these as well as the larger amount of milfoil plants remaining. The DPA may have to be more aggressive in fighting both weeds next spring.
Concerned citizen’s letter about Fun Run sponsorship
Barbara Boch wrote a letter about political parties participating as “sponsors” of the Fun Run, specifically the local Democratic Committee being a fun run sponsor. Bob Smith will write her a letter explaining our policy. We have had several board meetings discussing this and because the local Democratic committee did not sponsor or endorse any candidate (they did bring voter registration forms), we welcomed them as a sponsor. We don’t have a problem with any other party choosing to be a sponsor of this community event.
The next meeting will be Jan. 7 at Doron Almog’s house.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Lisa Jacobs,
Secretary
DPA Fall Membership Meeting
October 28, 2012
Board members in attendance: Jamie Pierce, Doron Almog, Bob Smith, Lisa Jacobs.
The Spring Membership meeting commenced at 5:10 when Bob Smith called the meeting to order. Lisa Jacobs read the minutes from the Spring meeting.
DPA wishes to thank cooks and shoppers Bob Smith and Jamie Pierce for the delicious dinner, and Wayne Kelley who couldn’t be here for the cooking but helped with the shopping and providing the cooking equipment.
The Harry S. Olin award was given to Wayne Kelley who has done so many things for the DPA since its inception. Wayne was unable to attend the fall meeting, but earlier in the day in a surprise ceremony, Wayne was presented with the award by Bob Smith.
Jamie Pierce presented the Treasurer’s report and discussed the investment of the endowment and operating funds. The DPA currently has $88,000 in the endowment fund and $45,000 in the operating fund. Based on last year’s membership approval, 10% of the profit from the 2011 fun run plus $4,000 ($5280) was transferred this year to the Arlene and Elliot Pollak Endowment Fund. A motion was made and seconded to make that transfer for 2013, and it was approved unanimously. It is estimated to be $5250.
The board has voted to allocate up to $1,000 toward the Elliot Pollak bench. Steve Garone had presented the idea for the bench to the Rec. Dept who approved placement of a permanent bench on Mansion Beach. There have also been individual contributions received toward the bench. The membership agreed to this expense.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the budget. It passed unanimously.
Karen Lowery presented the DPA Fun Run update. Special thanks go to the run coordinators: Tom Klem, Bob Smith, Lisa Jacobs, Jamie Pierce and Karen Lowery, in addition to the many volunteers for a record day both in runner totals and $$ collected.
Mike Lowery did a presentation on the milfoil removal and treatment efforts. Permits were granted for 2 more years. There was a record # weeds pulled this year, although the milfoil level was kept under good control- thanks to Alison LaClaire, Ted Fiust and their team of divers. There are concentrations of weeds in many parts of the pond and Mike is convinced that more aggressive measures will need to be taken next year. His presentation is on the DPA home page.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Lisa Jacobs, Secretary
